NAM Applauds President?s Focus on Energy Security
Posted: January 27, 2007

National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President John Engler applauds President Bushs recent State of the Union Address and called upon leaders of the 110th Congress to put partisan differences aside in pursuit of workable solutions to the nations challenges.

Engler supports the Presidents call to strengthen Americas energy security. It is abundantly clear we need a comprehensive national policy on energy, Engler said. Sky-high energy costs are a major impediment to our ability to compete in the global marketplace. We need to increase access to domestic energy sources, especially natural gas, even as we accelerate research and development of alternative fuels and expansion of nuclear power options.

The American people have made it clear they are tired of bickering and want action, Engler said. The only way to get things done in this environment is to put partisanship aside in favor of consensus solutions to our nations problems. Manufacturers are eager for action on a host of important issues and are ready, willing and eager to work with both parties for legislation that will advance our ability to succeed in the competitive world marketplace.
